James Nuphi Yashiyi is a Social Scientist and Project Lead currently working on the COUNTDOWN research project with the team in Nigeria.
He holds a Master Degree in Health Sociology from the famous University of Jos, Plateau State Nigeria after a B.Sc. in Sociology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, also in Nigeria.
He has had experience as Project Coordinator with the Universal Learning Solutions, a UK-based education support organisation where he successfully coordinated literacy programme for early years learners in over 205 public primary schools in Plateau State over a period of three years.
Amongst his recent works are findings on the perceptions patients have on team medical treatment by doctors in teaching hospitals which has put forward some recommendations that includes restricting the number of doctors to between two and four per multi-disciplinary team among others. He has another on the pattern and motivation of condom use among students of tertiary institution of learning in Nigeria, with a case study on the faculty of Social Sciences of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
His interest in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is deducible from his deep involvement with the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology of the COUNTDOWN research. He has undertaken courses on child safeguarding and disability rights and is certified by the West African Bioethics Training Program with which he has completed several training courses on research ethics.
He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Strategic Management.
