Mr Buhari Adamu Hamidu

Buhari Adamu Hamidu holds an M.Phil degree in Parasitology and a B.Sc degree in Entomology and Wildlife from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Cape Coast all from Ghana.

He is currently a Principal Research Assistant at the Biomedical and Public Health Research Unit, CSIR- Water Research Institute, Accra – Ghana with areas of expertise which include Medical Parasitology and Entomology, Epidemiology and Molecular Genetic. His research focuses on the application of this expertise towards the control and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). Research activities involve clinical-parasitological research such as DNA/ Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) analysis, genotypic and phenotypic response for the investigations into mechanisms and genetics of drug resistance, genetic diversity of soil-transmitted helminths and the application of vector dynamics, transmission patterns and molecular epidemiological approaches to investigate the feasibility of NTDs elimination in Ghana and Africa.

He holds a PhD Studentship position from the Anthelmintic Resistance Map (AR-Map) Projects from CSIR-WRI in collaboration with the Yale School of Public Health, Yale University – USA and the Noguchi Memorial Institute Medical Research – University of Ghana which is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), USA. He has attended and presented research papers at both local and international conferences/meetings with a publication out.
