Professor Daniel Adjei Boakye

Prof Daniel Adjei Boakye holds a B.Sc. Honours in Biological Sciences, an M.Sc. in Applied Entomology and Parasitology and a PhD in Medical Entomology. A Professor in the Parasitology Department, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), University of Ghana, he serves as the Deputy Coordinator of the LF Support Centre for Africa at the NMIMR; and also leads the World Health Organization (WHO) laboratory team overseeing the elimination of onchocerciasis transmission in Africa.

With over three decades of experience in biomedical research, particularly entomology and parasitology his research covers various areas of diagnosis and bio-diversity issues in insect vectors and parasites, control of vector-borne disease particularly NTDs and Malaria and on the role of parasitic infections in the modulation of the immune response towards allergic disorders. Over the years, he has led lead research groups involved in studies of lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, cutaneous leishmaniasis, malaria, schistosomiasis as well as Buruli ulcer and allergies, at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) Legon.

He serves on the National Onchocerciasis Elimination Expert Advisory Committees of 11 countries (Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Senegal, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia and Cameroon) and various Expert Advisory bodies of the WHO for NTDs and Vector-borne diseases. Furthermore, he still serves as a Panel member of some grant-awarding institutions including the BOVA network and Royal Society.

Dr Boakye has published over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals over the last five years.
